The primary goal of language arts program is to teach the students to read and write well. Studies indicate that the more one reads, the better reader he/she becomes. Vocabulary and grammar construction are learned by student exposure to good literature. When your child participates in the Accelerated Reader Program is a valuable tool.
There are over 3000 AR books on the list. This list can be accessed at http://www.lvusd.org/lcms/library
Each book is assigned a point value based on its difficulty. Do not choose a book just because it is worth many points. No points are earned at all if your child does ot pass the test without at least 70%. A book should be chosen because it interests the child, and is the appropriate reading level. Student ID must be shown at the time the test is taken. Students may take tests before school, during lunch, or after school.
To be successful: Choose an interesting book at the right reading level. Begin reading right away Take the test right after finishing the book Budget your time so that you meet reading deadlines
